The Best Places Around Australia To Watch The NYE Fireworks
It’s that time of year where we’re starting the countdown to the end of the year. And that means that fabulous New Year’s Eve fireworks are just around the corner!
Here’s our guide to the best places to watch all the dazzling night sky colour in Australia’s major capital cities. (Most of them are free!)
Whether you head to the Opera House in the east or the Rocks in the west, you’ll have a great view of both focal points of Sydney’s world-renowned New Year’s Eve fireworks extravaganza – Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
But, you’ll need to get there early as people start arriving early in the day to secure the best views.
Other great free spots include Bradfield Park at Milsons Point and Darling Harbour.
There are also some great places where you can pay to watch all the action, including The Royal Botanic Carden, Pirrama Park at Pyrmont, Taronga Zoo and Barangaroo Reserve. As you’d expect, you’re paying to get up close and for the best views.
The Yarra Riverbank
Melbourne’s New Year’s Eve fireworks are launched over the Yarra River.
There are plenty of great places along the Riverbank where you’ll get a great view. Make sure you get there early to claim your patch of grass.
You’ll also find plenty of local DJs creating the ultimate party vibe to keep you entertained in the countdown to midnight.
Southbank Parklands on the southern bank of the Brisbane River is the best vantage point for both the New Year’s Eve fireworks and the annual Riverfire event that’s held in September.
There’s plenty of entertainment, food and drinks available at Southbank in the lead-up to both events, and you can also swim at the man-made beach that’s onsite.
Again, make sure you get there early because it’s a trendy spot.
Swan River Foreshore
Perth doesn’t do New Year’s Eve fireworks, focusing on an Australia Day event on the Swan River instead. Revellers are encouraged to have a picnic on the Foreshore and enjoy music and dance before enjoying the fireworks display that happens just after sunset.
Elder Park provides the best view of the New Year’s Eve fireworks in the city of churches. It’s on the southern bank of the River Torrens. There’s plenty of entertainment, food and drinks on offer at Elder Park on the night.
Civic Square is the place to be to catch all the fireworks action on New Year’s Eve in the nation’s capital. Like Sydney, Canberra’s displays run a lights show and a few of the year’s biggest hits.
